P V Narasimha Rao
Pages: 756, Category: Fiction

The autobiographical work of fiction by India’s former Prime Minister, P V Narasimha Rao had attracted critical attention by the outspoken assertiveness in his work as diametrically opposed the ethos he displayed as Prime Minister. Though he was reluctant to take any decisions which even smacked of controversy, in the novel, the hero, Anand is portrayed the personification of all things good and noble. Since the work is fictional, the truth of the stated facts cannot be ascertained.
The story unfolds in the state of Afrozabad, a state which became independent from a brutal Muslim sultan. Anand was a revolutionary leader who gradually got sedimented to the ruling party and ascended the political ladder first as MLA and then Minister for land reforms. When Indira Gandhi shuffled all chief ministers according to her whims, Anand, being an obedient follower, found himself catapulted to the CM’s chair. He went on to become the PM.
The curious fact is that, the prime ministerial tenure of Anand is condensed into- can you believe it?-one line!!! His services in Afrozabad carries 755 of the 756 pages of the book. The language is slightly obscene in some of the passages and since lacking in honesty, the book is nothing but trash.
